StageWest Theatre Company has been entertaining central Iowa audiences for 20 years. The success of our productions is attributed to the incredible production team and talent that give 110% to every performance.

If you love to act and would be interested in auditioning for one of our upcoming casts, we welcome you to complete an application. Prior experience is not required, but encouraged. Participating in StageWest Theatre takes a commitment, but it will provide you one of the most memorable experiences of your life!

 

 

Currently Auditioning For:  HIR by Taylor Mac

When: Saturday, February 11 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm CST and Sunday, February 12 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm CST.

Where: StageWest Rehearsal Space: 110 11th Street (between Cherry and Mulberry; two blocks west of the Des Moines Social Club)

What to Expect:  Auditions will consist of prepared readings from selected scenes from the show, which will be sent to you after your application is received (if you do not receive an email with the PDF script attached, please contact us at 515-309-0251). Please prepare for one or more of the selected scenes.  You will either be paired up with another artist auditioning or an audition reader will be provided.  Please also be familiar with the all of the audition scenes, since you may be asked to read additional scenes.  

Character Descriptions:

Isaac Conner, 24 – Cisgender son of Paige and Arnold.  Issac has just been dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Army, where his primary duty was cleaning up body parts in a war zone.  His return to a house that is not what he expects agitates his PTSD.

Paige Conner, 55 – Cisgender mother of Max and Isaac.  She is eccentric and entertaining, seeking to tear down old ways of thinking – particularly patriarchy.  She loves chaos, intentionally leaving her house in disarray because was “Arnold’s thing”.

Max Conner, 17 – Transgender child of Paige and Arnold.  Born “Maxine”, Max has been taking testosterone supplements since Isaac went overseas.  Max seeks to work hir way up the family totem pole and revels in bringing forward newly discovered information.  Max should should be played by someone who was a biological female and now identifies as transgender or gender-queer.

Arnold Conner, 58 – Cisgender father of Isaac and Max.  Arnold was a violent man who had a stroke, which left him clownish.  His language is simple and he possess no filter to expressing his simple needs.
